Driving along the coast of Maine one must stop at a lobster shack when hunger strikes. On our way south from Bar Harbor, we stopped at a lively, large, open-air casual place for lobster rolls. It seemed to be a popular stop for all tourists and a lot of locals as well. There was an abundance of colorful flowers spread out amongst the many inviting picnic benches. The lobster of course was fresh and succulent, and we treated ourselves to a stacked mound of delicious onion rings.

Kennebunkport- it may very well be a long, hard-to-pronounce name but it is famous and easily recognized as the quintessential, prosperous New England. town.  President Bush and his family had their summer home in this harbor-front town and visitors are constantly flocking around Walker’s Point to get great views of the famous estate.

Sitting on the ubiquitous Adirondack chairs on the expansive lawns could have been a pastime stretching over several hours.

You may feel like you are the only one soaking up the sun and staring out into the water if it wasn’t for the steady stream of sailboats and cruising motorboats drifting by with a cheerful attitude.

Nonantum is a pleasant and inviting property overlooking the Kennebunk river and boasting lovely water views.

Just walking ten minutes towards the seashore offers sunsets that are simply breathtaking.

Dock’s Square is where everyone ends up - a great collection of antique and art stores, cafes and restaurants, the mandatory ice-cream shop (s) and fudge store. Everyone follows the Maine protocol of wandering and browsing at a leisurely pace.

We took a lovely early morning walk along Ocean Avenue passing the coastline on one side and beautiful mansions on the other including historic hotels like the Colony Hotel and Cape Arundel Inn. The views were beautiful.
